Day 1: Boat Ride on Piuray Lagoon – Andean Textile Art Andino Including a Pachamanca – Wake up to the view of the lagoon from your dome on the lakeside.
Your pick from your hotel in Cusco will be at 08:00 am. We will then head off in our private vehicle to the PIURAY lagoon, where we will enjoy a boat ride for approximately 1 hour. We will the head off to the UMASBAMBA community where a traditional family will greet us in the small plaza. We will be greeted by traditional music from the region, while a local native dance group will direct us towards the entrance to the community. We will accompany the dance group to the rhythm of the music while complying with all safety protocols and biosecurity measures. On arrival at the community, they friendly local people with greet us with a musical greeting in their native language of Quechua. After this, we will receive an informative explanation and demonstration in the “house of chicha” about its preparation and ingredients (Aja Wasi). It will also be explained to us the tools and agricultural products used in the process including potato, broad beans, wheat, and the local “olluco” Chicha plays an important role at the beginning of this activity, which begins by asking permission from the mother earth with the “tinkaska” or offering of health and thanks to the mother earth (Pachamama). We will also take part in a presentation and demonstration of artistic textiles, which includes sheering, washing, threading, twisting dying, spinning and knitting of the yarn with different designs and a variety of colours, which represent the iconography from Umasbamba. We will have the opportunity to purchase these incredible masterpieces of artistic textile handmade by the women of the community. You will also be given the opportunity to take part in the preparation, elaboration and sampling of the traditional Pachamanca. Finally, we will say our goodbyes to the musicians who will accompany us to our domes. We will have time in the afternoon to Marvel at the incredible countryside and the magnificent Piuray lake from the viewpoint. Overnight: Dome on the shores of the Piuray lagoon.
